District IT Manager urges Aadhaar registration for all children soon

Malerkotla,31 July 2025 : The Aadhaar card issued by the Government of India is an important document for citizens, serving as proof of identity, address, and age. It is essential for availing benefits from various schemes and services of both central and state governments, and is considered the backbone of the country’s digital transformation.

In this regard, district IT manager Monika Singla informed that, according to the guidelines issued by UIDAI, children whose Aadhaar card was made before the age of 5 must update their biometric information (fingerprints, iris scan, and photograph) before the age of 7. Failing to do so may lead to their Aadhaar number being considered invalid. Therefore, all citizens are urged to ensure their children’s Aadhaar cards are updated in time.

She mentioned that Aadhaar update services are available at 9 service centers across the district.

Key points:

  • For children aged 0–5 years, only demographic information needs to be updated — and it is free of cost.
  • For children aged 5–7 years, the first biometric update is mandatory and free.
  • Those who got Aadhaar before the age of 15 can also do a second biometric update for free between ages 15–17.

She added that when Aadhaar is issued in early childhood, only details like name, date of birth, address, and photo are collected, as biometric data is not fully developed at that age. This update is important because it can affect services like school admissions, entrance exams, scholarships, and DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer) schemes.

Summary:
The District IT Manager has advised all citizens to promptly get Aadhaar cards made for their children to ensure smooth access to government schemes and services.
