Malerkotla, 16 Sep 2025 : District Magistrate Viraj S. Tirke has stated that during the harvesting season of paddy crops, it is commonly observed that some farmers set fire to paddy stubble. Burning stubble poses significant risks. It causes severe pollution, leading to respiratory diseases, and also reduces the fertility of the soil. The beneficial microorganisms in the upper layer of the soil are killed due to fire. Additionally, setting fire to stubble increases the risk of major accidents and obstructs traffic when stubble is burned near roads. Therefore, it is essential to prevent the burning of paddy stubble.
Considering these reasons, the District Magistrate, exercising powers under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Act, 2023 (Bharatiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita), has issued orders for a complete ban on burning paddy stubble within the district limits.
These orders will be effective from 16 September to 15 November 2025.
Summary : The District Magistrate issued strict orders banning the burning of paddy stubble to curb pollution, safeguard health, and promote eco-friendly farming practices in the district.
