District Vigilance Committee Meets Under Atrocities Act

Fazilka, 09 June 2025 : A meeting of the District-level Vigilance and Monitoring Committee was held today under the Scheduled Castes and the Prevention of Atrocities Act, 1989 and Rules 1995, chaired by Deputy Commissioner Amarpreet Kaur Sandhu, IAS.

During the meeting, she directed all departments to work diligently according to the law and government guidelines to protect the rights of Scheduled Castes. She instructed the police department to promptly complete investigations of ongoing cases. She also stated that victims of crimes against Scheduled Castes are provided compensation by the government. She mentioned that compensation has already been provided in nearly two dozen such cases in the district.

On this occasion, Social Justice and Empowerment Officer Ashok Kumar provided further information on the subject to the committee members. He explained that members of the SC community who are victims of atrocities receive compensation.

Present in the meeting were District Attorney Wazir Komboj, DSP Shri Lovdeep Singh, Principal Sukhdev Singh, and Gurmeet Singh.

Officials reviewed SC/ST Atrocities Act enforcement, assured justice in Dalit youth’s death case, and approved compensation, pension, and legal action against culprits.
