District Vows Strong Support for Drug Addiction Treatment Initiatives

Sri Muktsar Sahib,26 June 2025 :  As part of the state-wide anti-drug campaign “Yudh Nashean De Viruddh” launched by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, continuous efforts are being made by the district administration to tackle drug addiction.

On the occasion of International Day Against Drug Abuse, a review meeting was held today at the District Administrative Complex, Sri Muktsar Sahib, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Abhijeet Kaplish, where the steps taken under the campaign in the district were assessed.

Deputy Commissioner Kaplish stated that the main goal of the Punjab Government’s anti-drug mission is to bring misled youth back onto the path of life and make them healthy through proper treatment. He emphasized that the district administration is fully committed to providing treatment for individuals suffering from drug addiction through government health institutions.

He said that drug addiction is a mental illness that weakens a person physically, mentally, and economically. Therefore, it is essential to increase public awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and promote preventive measures. He noted that widespread drug use is a matter of concern for society and poses a major obstacle to a country’s progress.

He directed the Health Department to ensure that the maximum number of addicted individuals from both rural and urban areas are admitted to de-addiction centers and provided with necessary medications so they do not face any difficulties in their recovery.

He also emphasized that those admitted to de-addiction centers must be provided with clean drinking water, nutritious food, essential medicines, and all necessary facilities to support their rehabilitation.

Present during the meeting were Civil Surgeon Dr. Jagdeep Chawla, Deputy Medical Commissioner Dr. Dupinder Kumar, Senior Medical Officer Dr. Sunil Bansal (Malout), District Epidemiologist Dr. Harkiratan Singh, Dr. Rashmi Chawla, Dr. Prabhjeet Gulati, and other officials from the Health Department.
