Malerkotla, 28 July 2025: A district-level event was organized at the Punjab Urdu Academy by the Department of Women and Child Development in connection with International Day Against Drug Abuse to further strengthen the state government’s decisive campaign “War Against Drugs” in the district.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Sukhpreet Singh Sidhu attended the event as the chief guest.
While presiding over the program, the ADC stated that Punjab is the sacred land of Gurus, saints, and deities, where people live with dignity. However, the menace of drugs had gripped the state and society. Emphasizing the need for unity across society to tackle this issue, he said that complete eradication of drugs is not possible without public support. Therefore, everyone must join hands and cooperate with the administration. The success of any campaign depends on people’s involvement. He urged all to raise their voices together against drugs to create a healthy and prosperous Punjab.
Encouraging the youth and citizens, he said that we must adopt a positive and proactive mindset. If anyone has information about drug peddling, they should inform the administration — taking action is the administration’s responsibility. The identity of the informer will be kept strictly confidential. He also shared the WhatsApp number 97791-00200 issued by the Punjab government for sharing drug-related information.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (D) Rimpi Garg added that individuals involved in drug trade across Punjab are being controlled at a large scale. The Punjab government and district administration are fully committed to uprooting the drug menace. Under the “War Against Drugs” campaign, illegal properties of drug smugglers are being demolished and seized in many cases. The ADC also administered an anti-drug oath to the attendees.
On the occasion, Gurpyar Singh Bajwa’s team presented an emotional anti-drug play titled “Sulagdi Dharti” (Burning Land), delivering a powerful message against drug abuse.
Also present were District Social Security Officer Jasvir Kaur, officers from various departments, dignitaries, numerous youth, and local residents.
