Tarn Taran, 09 June 2025 : Under the chairmanship of Additional Deputy Commissioner Shri Rajdeep Singh Brar, today a district-level advisory committee meeting on food safety was held at the District Administrative Complex. In this regard, the Additional Deputy Commissioner stated that obtaining a food license and registration is mandatory for every food operator in the city. If any shopkeeper, restaurant, or dhaba owner fails to apply for the license or registration, action will be taken against them under the Food Act. The Additional Deputy Commissioner further said that all pending court cases related to old food sampling will be resolved at the earliest.
On this occasion, Civil Surgeon Tarn Taran Dr. Gurpreet Singh Rai said that the Health Department is committed to providing adulteration-free and hygienic food products to the public and is continuously taking measures for this purpose.
District Health Officer Dr. Sukhbir Kaur (Convener) informed all members about the food safety activities conducted during April and May. She instructed officials related to schools to ensure food safety registration is completed as soon as possible in schools and anganwadis, and that food provided to children should be prepared according to food safety guidelines. She also shared information about the ban on the sale of energy drinks in and around schools. The Additional Deputy Commissioner instructed everyone at their respective places to raise awareness about healthy food and better living.
At the end of the meeting, the Additional Deputy Commissioner appreciated the work related to food safety carried out by the Health Department and handed over Eat Right certificates issued by FSSAI (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) to representatives of five institutions in the district — Mai Bhago College of Nursing, International College of Nursing, Majha College for Women, Guru Nanak Dev Superspeciality Hospital, and Nishan-e-Sikhi International School.
