Chandigarh, December 30, 2024 : The Indian government runs several schemes for the people of the country, benefiting millions of citizens. Under the National Food Security Act, people receive subsidized or free ration. To avail of this, the government issues ration cards, which allow individuals to collect ration from depots. Over 80 crore people benefit from this program. However, starting from January 1st, new rules for ration cardholders will come into effect.
Ration Cards of These People Will Be Canceled
The government had already issued rules for e-KYC (electronic Know Your Customer) for ration cardholders. Initially, the government provided a deadline for completion, but many cardholders did not complete the e-KYC process by the specified time. Later, the government extended the deadline until December 31, 2024.
This rule applies to all ration cardholders across states. However, many cardholders still haven’t completed the e-KYC process. If these individuals do not complete e-KYC by December 31, 2024, their ration cards may be canceled from January 1, 2025.
If you haven’t completed your e-KYC for the ration card yet, you can visit your nearest ration depot, provide your Aadhar card, and complete the process by registering your fingerprints on the PoS machine. Additionally, e-KYC can also be completed via mobile.
Summary: Starting January 1, 2025, ration cards of those who haven’t completed e-KYC by December 31, 2024, will be canceled. Ration cardholders can complete e-KYC at depots or via mobile.
