Governor’s Remarks on Achieving a ‘Drug-Free Rangla Punjab’

Gulab Chand Kataria

Kartarpur, December 11, 2024 (Navroze Bureau)  To stop the sixth river of drug abuse flowing in Punjab, if we start from our homes, especially our mothers and sisters struggle for this work, then drug abuse can be eradicated from Punjab and the youth of the state can also be saved. These views were expressed by Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria during a press conference at Kartarpur Jang-e-Azadi Memorial today. He said that Punjab is the land of heroes, gurus and saints, from where freedom fighters sacrificed their lives for the freedom of the country, but in the current situation, the youth are either getting involved in drugs or going abroad. In such a situation, Punjab is continuously becoming hollow. Today there is a need to revive this green Punjab. For this, special attention should be given to our children, especially children between 10 to 18 years of age.

They should be able to save themselves from bad company at this age and make their future bright. Before this, while participating in the anti-drug rally started by the Red Cross Society, he started his journey on foot from Noble School in village Bhatte and after travelling a distance of about five kilometres, reached the Jang-e-Azadi Memorial. During this, the students and staff of Mata Gujri Khalsa College welcomed him on the way.

In his address, calling small children the future of the country, he wished for a bright future for the youth and said that they should give up drugs and adopt their sports and culture and strengthen their society. During this, he also offered flowers of respect at the martyrdom memorial of those martyrs at the Jang-e-Azadi Smarak and also gave special respect to Sardar Fauja Singh, the proud marathon runner of Doaba. During the gathering, Sardar Fauja Singh, in his address, said in very few words that stopping drug addiction is not a big deal, this addiction starts from the top and can be stopped from the top only, but efforts are necessary for this.
