Chandigarh 26 March 2025 : Amid unusual weather changes, doctors have started advising precautions to prevent heatstroke. Kaushambi’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, stated that heatwave conditions affect the body’s functioning, which can even lead to death. To reduce the effects of heat waves, listen to the radio, read newspapers, and watch the latest news on television to stay updated on the local weather. It is crucial to recognize the symptoms of heatstroke, heat rash, and heat cramps, which include weakness, dizziness, headaches, nausea, excessive sweating, and unconsciousness. If you feel faint, visit the nearest health center immediately. In case of an emergency, call 108/102 ambulance services.
Stay Hydrated for Protection
To protect yourself from heatstroke, do not let your body become dehydrated. Drink plenty of water, especially when traveling. Consume ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution) and homemade drinks like buttermilk, rice water, lemon water, and butter-based drinks. Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables with high water content, such as watermelon, oranges, grapes, cucumbers, and salads.
When to Open and Close Windows
People working outdoors should wear light-colored, sweat-absorbing clothes and use sunglasses, umbrellas, hats, and sandals. They should cover their face, hands, and feet with wet cloths and use umbrellas for shade. Spend more time indoors at home or in the office, preferably in a well-ventilated area. Take proper measures to block direct sunlight and hot winds. Keep homes cool by keeping windows, curtains, and doors closed during the day and opening them in the evening to allow fresh air circulation.
Preparedness for Heatwave
Kaushambi’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sanjay Kumar, stated that the last week of March has arrived, and from the last weeks of March and April, the sun’s heat intensifies. Government guidelines ensure that people do not suffer from heatwaves. Community Health Centers and Primary Health Centers have been equipped with water facilities. Authorities have also been instructed to plant shady trees. Hospitals have been provided with coolers. Additionally, 20-20 packets of ORS have been made available at ASHA workers’ and village heads’ locations. If someone suddenly experiences dehydration, they should be given an ORS solution immediately.
