On August 11, 2025, major figures from the INDIA bloc—including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut, and TMC’s Sagarika Ghose—were detained by Delhi Police while marching from Parliament toward the Election Commission of India (ECI). The protest was aimed at challenging the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar and alleged electoral malpractices.
Police stated no permission had been granted for the march, aside from a sanctioned group of 30 MPs, leading to the mass detentions near Transport Bhavan. Authorities emphasized concerns over law-and-order and crowd control.
The protest escalated as Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav jumped barricades, while several MPs attempted to breach security cordons amid slogans about “vote theft.”
After approximately two hours, all detained MPs were released from the Parliament Street Police Station.
Rahul Gandhi, upon release, called the demonstration a fight to “save the Constitution” and to uphold the principle of “one person, one vote.
