Karisma Kapoor Denies Media Claims on Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 Cr Estate, Reveals Citizenship Decision

11 Sep 2025 :  Actress Karisma Kapoor’s legal team has dismissed media reports claiming that her children are fighting for a share in ex-husband Sunjay Kapur’s ₹30,000 crore estate, calling the figure a “media creation.” The statement comes amid speculation surrounding a reported legal dispute between Kapoor’s children — Samaira and Kiaan — and their father’s family.

Karisma’s lawyer, in a detailed clarification, stated that there is no formal legal battle over Sunjay Kapur’s assets and urged media outlets to refrain from spreading misleading information.

“Our client wishes to make it clear that the reported figure of ₹30,000 crore is entirely speculative and sensationalized. There is no dispute about inheritance at this stage,” the statement read.

The lawyer also addressed the buzz about Karisma Kapoor allegedly refusing Portuguese citizenship, which Sunjay Kapur was keen on obtaining for their children. According to the statement, Karisma declined the proposal because she wanted her children to retain Indian citizenship for emotional and practical reasons.

“Karisma believes that her children’s identity and future should remain rooted in India. While Sunjay wanted Portuguese passports for easier global mobility, Karisma prioritized their Indian heritage,” the lawyer explained.

Background of the Case
Karisma Kapoor and industrialist Sunjay Kapur married in 2003 and divorced in 2016 after a widely publicized legal battle. The couple co-parents their two children, with Karisma being the primary guardian. Sunjay Kapur has since remarried.

The recent rumors gained traction after reports suggested that Kapoor’s children had approached the Delhi High Court for a share in Sunjay’s alleged ₹30,000 crore assets. However, Karisma’s legal team insists that no such petition has been filed and that the family wishes to handle any financial discussions privately.

Citizenship Angle
The revelation about Portuguese citizenship adds an interesting dimension to the story. Many wealthy Indian families opt for European passports to benefit from visa-free travel, education opportunities, and favorable tax regimes. Karisma, however, reportedly turned down the offer to avoid potential complications in her children’s future in India, including property rights and career opportunities.

Media’s Role Under Scrutiny
Karisma’s team has also cautioned the media against sensationalizing family matters that could affect the children’s privacy. “Speculative reporting around minors is harmful. We request all to respect their privacy,” the statement concluded.

This latest clarification appears to be an effort to put an end to circulating rumors and to protect the children from unnecessary public scrutiny.

Summary:
Karisma Kapoor’s lawyer dismissed reports of a ₹30,000 crore estate dispute, clarified no legal battle exists, and revealed she rejected Portuguese citizenship for her children to preserve their Indian roots.
