Mann Government Begins Punjab Village Development Drive with Water, Sanitation Focus in Ludhiana

Chandigarh 4 Aug 2025 : The Punjab government has decided to take its decisive campaign against drugs, ‘Yudh Nashe Ke Viruddh’ (War Against Drugs), to the next phase. As part of this, Defense Committees will be formed in every village and ward across the state to strengthen the fight against drugs. Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will launch this new phase of the campaign today from Ludhiana.

According to the information, the government’s objective is to completely eliminate drug abuse, and to achieve this, it has decided to establish defense committees at the village and ward level. The number of members in each committee will be based on the local population, with a minimum of 10 and a maximum of 20 members in each.

Retired army personnel, teachers, and village heads (Numberdars) will be given preference in these committees. Each member will be entrusted with the responsibility of rooting out drug abuse from their respective areas.

Summary :
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann launched a rural development initiative from Ludhiana, aiming to provide clean drinking water and modern drainage systems to over 4,100 Punjab villages.
