Lehra Gaga ,22 Sep 2025 : Taking a significant step towards providing better facilities to urban residents, Cabinet Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal today laid the foundation stone of the new Nagar Council building at Lehra Gaga. The new building will be constructed at the site of the old office, which had long been unable to meet the growing needs of the city.
On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister said that the new building, to be built at a cost of around ₹46 lakh, will have modern facilities. The project will be completed soon, after which residents will be able to access all services under one roof in a quick and transparent manner.
He further informed that the Punjab Government has fulfilled a long-pending demand of the people by covering the main ditch drain passing through the city at a cost of around ₹15 crore, providing major relief to the residents. In addition, keeping in view the demands of the citizens, a project worth about ₹8 crore to cover the city’s drains/ Nalian will soon be launched, which will ease many of the problems faced by the public.
Mr. Goyal said that the Punjab Government is committed to strengthening urban governance and providing people-friendly infrastructure. He added that the new building will improve working conditions for Nagar Council staff and will ensure timely and convenient services for citizens.
On this occasion, the Cabinet Minister was honored by the Nagar Council and city residents, while Nagar Council officials with outstanding performance were also felicitated.
In reply to a media query regarding water issues in the city, the Cabinet Minister explained that chances of contamination in the water supply occurred due to damaged household connection pipes from the main line, because of which some connections had to be cut. He advised people to get their household pipelines checked, as old pipes often deteriorate, causing water-related problems.
Mr. Goyal instructed Municipal Council members to visit their respective wards along with Council officials and resolve any issues faced by residents.
Earlier, the Cabinet Minister also attended the Bhog ceremonies of Sri Akhand Path Sahib organized in villages Kudni, Bhoondar Bhaini, Surjan Bhaini, and others as shukrana for protection from the Ghaggar floods. He said that with the blessings of the Almighty, the cooperation of the people, and the strengthening of embankments by the Punjab Government, the Ghaggar did not breach. He added that the state government is working tirelessly to restore normalcy in the lives of flood-affected people and no stone will be left unturned. Compensation will be provided as per the announcements made, and the Punjab Government stands firmly with the flood-affected citizens.
The foundation stone laying ceremony was attended by Nagar Council President Kanta Goyal, Municipal Councilors, local leaders, Nagar Council officials, and a large number of city residents.
