29 September 2026 (Navroze Bureau) The song “Deewangi Deewangi” from Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone’s 2007 film Om Shanti Om brought together an extraordinary lineup of Bollywood stars, including Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Dharmendra, Priyanka Chopra, Rani Mukerji, Rekha and Saif Ali Khan.
Yet, according to director Farah Khan, it was veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty who caused the biggest frenzy on the set.
Mithun’s Arrival Created Chaos
Farah Khan recalled that when Mithun Chakraborty arrived to shoot his portion of “Deewangi Deewangi”, the excitement among the crew became so intense that it resulted in what she described as a “stampede” on the set.
Mithun had returned to the set after a long gap, and technicians, light boys and other workers rushed to see him.

The reaction was reportedly so overwhelming that some crew members handed their phones to Shah Rukh Khan and asked him to take their photographs with Mithun.
Farah explained that Mithun was highly respected by the workers, partly because of his association with their professional organisations and his work on behalf of industry workers.
31 Stars Featured in the Song
“Deewangi Deewangi” remains one of Bollywood’s most memorable star-studded songs.
The track featured 31 prominent actors, with appearances by Salman Khan, Sanjay Dutt, Rani Mukerji, Preity Zinta, Kajol, Juhi Chawla, Karisma Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Tabu, Lara Dutta, Shabana Azmi and several other major names.
The song was composed by Vishal-Shekhar, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar.
Mithun’s Star Power Stood Out
Despite the presence of so many established stars, Mithun’s arrival generated an unusually strong reaction.
Farah said she herself was surprised by the scale of the excitement. The episode highlighted the veteran actor’s popularity among the technicians and workers who had followed his career for years.
