Chandigarh,5 Aug 2025 : In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of delivering efficient and citizen-friendly public services, the Water Supply and Sanitation Department is set to build a Jal Bhawan in Mohali, where all water-related services will be provided under one roof.
This was announced by Water Supply and Sanitation Minister Hardeep Singh Mundian after a meeting with concerned officials at Punjab Bhawan regarding the construction of the building. He stated that the Jal Bhawan will be completed within two years. During the meeting, the Chief Architect of the Architecture Department also gave a presentation on the proposed design of the building.
Mundian highlighted that currently, the department does not have a dedicated building in Mohali or Chandigarh where all staff can be accommodated together. Therefore, it was decided to construct a modern, state-of-the-art Jal Bhawan that will house all departmental offices. This will enhance departmental efficiency and enable citizens to access all services at a single location.
Sharing more about the building’s features, Mundian said it will include a large auditorium, multiple conference halls, a big meeting hall, crèche facilities, a rest house, and other amenities to streamline the department’s operations.
He instructed officials to ensure the building is constructed to high standards with top-quality facilities.
The Architecture Department informed that the building will be constructed in compliance with GRIHA/ECBC norms, which will help reduce operational costs in the future.
Principal Secretary Neel Kanth Avhad stated that a budget of ₹10 crore has been allocated for the construction of this building for the financial year 2025–26. If this amount is utilized by the Public Works Department by November–December, additional budget requirements will be submitted to the Finance Department.
