New Rain Alert in Punjab, Warning Issued for the Next 7 Days

Chandigarh, December 24: Yesterday, it rained all day in Punjab and Haryana. The rain has also intensified the cold. This has brought relief to people who had been experiencing dry cold for several days. With the rain, the cold winds have further strengthened the chill in both states. The forecast predicts cold waves and dense fog in Punjab on December 24, 25, and 26. During this period, rain will continue, and temperatures are expected to drop by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall in several states amid the ongoing cold wave in northern India. According to the IMD, the rain caused by the western disturbance will worsen the intense cold. The situation is expected to worsen in the coming seven days in states like Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana. The weather department has also issued a warning about a strong western disturbance that will affect north-western India from the night of December 26. On December 27, a cyclonic circulation is likely to form in south-western Rajasthan, which, along with easterly winds, will bring high moisture from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal until December 28.

Rain in Uttar Pradesh and Delhi:
According to the IMD, heavy rain and severe cold are expected in Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, and Haryana over the next seven days. The weather department has issued an orange alert for Una, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, and Mandi districts of Himachal Pradesh. In the coming days, light rain is likely in some areas of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR. In Punjab, there is a possibility of fog and light rain in some areas of Chandigarh.

Snowfall in the mountains:
Due to the drop in temperature in Kashmir and other high-altitude areas, water pipes have become blocked, and there has been a disruption in power generation as water-filled rivers have turned into ice. A yellow alert has been issued for continuous fog in the Bhakra Dam area and Himachal’s Balah Ghati, making daily life even more difficult.

Summary: Heavy rain, severe cold, and snowfall are expected in northern India, with warnings for Haryana, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Delhi-NCR over the next week.
