Moga, April 4, 2025: Wheat harvesting is about to begin. To ensure smooth procurement in the mandis, it is very important that the wheat crop is free from moisture. If harvesting is done during damp conditions, there is a risk of fire due to friction caused during the process.
Keeping this in mind, District Magistrate of Moga, Mr. Sagar Setia, exercising powers under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, has issued orders imposing a complete ban on the operation of combine harvesters for wheat harvesting from 7 PM to 9 AM within the jurisdiction of Moga district in public interest.
He stated that many farmers start operating straw reapers/machines to make straw from the leftover stubble immediately after harvesting the wheat crop using combine machines. However, the wheat stubble at that time is damp, and due to friction and heat generated in the machine, there is a possibility of fire breaking out in the standing wheat crop.
To prevent such incidents and the resulting loss of life and property, the District Magistrate, using the powers granted under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, has also imposed a complete ban on the use of straw reapers/straw-making machines within the jurisdiction of Moga district until April 30.
The Deputy Commissioner urged farmers to strictly follow these orders.
Summary: Authorities impose a ban on wheat harvesting using combine machines from 7 PM to 9 AM to reduce noise and dust pollution during nighttime hours.
