Panchayats to Play Key Role in Drug War: ADC Dhaliwal

Fathegarh Sahib 26 March 2025 : Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s visionary approach has led the Punjab government to launch the war against drugs campaign, aiming to eliminate drug abuse. The success of this mission requires the support of people from all sections of society to create a drug-free society. These views were expressed by Additional Deputy Commissioner rural development Surinder Singh Dhaliwal while addressing an awareness program for block-level panchayats at the BDPO office in Khera.

He emphasized that eliminating drugs is essential to saving the youth of Punjab. The district administration is conducting various awareness activities as part of this campaign.

Dhaliwal urged panchayats to support this initiative by encouraging any youth in villages who wish to quit drugs to be taken to government de-addiction centers, where they will receive free treatment and vocational training courses. This will help them reintegrate into mainstream society and lead a drug-free life.

He further advised panchayats to report any individual engaged in drug trafficking in their villages to the police department so that legal action can be taken against them, ensuring a complete eradication of drug-related activities.

On this occasion, block development and panchayat officer Khera Chand Singh shared that the department of rural development and panchayats has initiated an awareness program under the war against drugs campaign. As part of this initiative, awareness programs are being conducted for panchayats within the block.

He stressed the need for everyone to remain vigilant against drugs. If collective action is not taken now, the consequences could be severe and dangerous.

The event was attended by sarpanches, panchayat members, and department officials from various villages under Khera block.

Summary: ADC Dhaliwal emphasizes the vital role of panchayats in combating drug abuse at the grassroots level, ensuring community-driven efforts.
