PM Awas Yojana 2.0 clears way for 30,000 new Punjab homes

Jalandhar  November 10, 2025: Who doesn’t dream of owning a home? Thousands of families in Punjab are now seeing a new ray of hope. The reason — under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) 2.0, approval has been granted for the construction of 30,000 new houses in the state. In the past seven months alone, more than 60,000 people have applied for the scheme, reflecting the strong public trust in it. According to government data, since August 5, 2022, a total of 70,568 families will receive financial assistance to build their own homes. A large number of these families have been struggling for years to fulfill their dream of homeownership.

The scheme is available only to those whose annual income is less than ₹3 lakh. Eligible families will receive ₹1.5 lakh from the central government and ₹50,000 from the state government to help build their house. The remaining amount must be arranged by the beneficiary. Additionally, ₹75,000 will be disbursed in installments based on the stage of house construction. This amount will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account to prevent any interference by agents or middlemen.

The Local Government Department is conducting surveys to identify those who want to build houses under this scheme. The department will help applicants correct any errors in their applications. After the survey, a final list of eligible beneficiaries will be prepared. The implementation of the scheme will be accelerated by August 2024.

This scheme is seen as a major relief for low- and middle-income families. It ensures direct transfer of funds to beneficiaries, eliminating middlemen, and promotes transparency in house construction. It is also expected to reduce the number of slums and unsafe dwellings in urban areas.

Summary :
Under PM Awas Yojana 2.0, Punjab will get 30,000 new houses, with eligible citizens able to apply through government portals for affordable housing benefits.
