PM Modi stated that India and ASEAN together represent nearly one-fourth of the world’s population. They are deeply connected not only by geography but also by shared history, values, and the spirit of cooperation. He described this partnership as a “shared journey of the Global South.”

2026 to be celebrated as the Year of India-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation

Prime Minister Modi added that India’s “Viksit Bharat 2047” and ASEAN’s “Community Vision 2045” are steps toward a shared future. Their goal, he said, is to build a bright, inclusive, and sustainable world for all humanity.

In his speech, PM Modi thanked Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos for his role as India’s country coordinator and welcomed Timor-Leste as a new member. He also expressed deep condolences on the passing of Thailand’s late Queen Sirikit. Prime Minister Modi said that even in these uncertain times, the India-ASEAN partnership has emerged as a strong foundation for stability and development.
