Bathinda May 6 : In connection with the farmers’ protest at Shambhu Border on May 6, the police conducted large-scale raids to arrest farmers. The police detained some farmer leaders, while most of the leaders went underground.
Resham Singh Yatri, General Secretary of Bhakiyu Ekta Siddhupur, reported that the police carried out raids early in the morning, intimidating the families of farmers. The police raided homes in the morning and detained Union General Secretary Kaka Singh Kotda, taking him to an undisclosed location. In addition, farmer leader Mukhtiyar Singh Rajgarh Kubbe was also detained by the police.
A heavy police force, along with officials, raided the homes of Union District President Baldev Singh Sandhoha and Resham Singh Yatri, but the farmer leaders could not be apprehended as they had gone underground. The farmer leaders stated that before coming to power, Chief Minister Mann had portrayed himself as the biggest supporter of farmers and promised to stand by them at all costs. However, after coming to power, he changed his stance. They declared that the farmers would continue their protest by staging a sit-in in front of the Shambhu Border police station. If the police attempt to stop them, they will strongly oppose the government and the police.
