With the objective of providing government services to citizens in an easy and transparent manner, the Punjab Government has launched the ‘Digi Punjab’ integrated digital portal. In the first phase, more than 300 government services related to 12 departments have been made available on a single platform.
Appreciating the citizen-friendly initiative, Malerkotla MLA Dr. Jameel-ur-Rehman said that the ‘Digi Punjab’ portal would reduce the need for people to repeatedly visit government offices for various tasks. Citizens would be able to apply for several services from the comfort of their homes.
He said the portal currently offers several important services, including birth and death certificates, marriage registration, income and residence certificates, caste certificates, police verification, medical fitness certificates, social security pensions, and water connections, among others.
The MLA said that the target is to integrate more than 800 government services with the portal over the next two months. He said that defined timelines for each service and the facility to track the status of applications online would bring greater transparency and accountability to administrative procedures.
He said good governance does not merely mean digitising government offices; rather, it means providing citizens with time-bound services without harassment, recommendations or corruption.
Dr. Jameel-ur-Rehman said the Punjab Government’s objective is to bring government services closer to citizens through technology, enabling them to receive services within a stipulated timeframe without unnecessary inconvenience or dependence on intermediaries.
He added that for people who do not have access to technology, Sewa Kendras and the doorstep delivery service 1076 would continue to serve as support mechanisms as before.
He said that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, was continuously working to simplify administrative procedures and make them more citizen-centric in accordance with the principle of “Citizens before files.”
He said the government’s aim was to relieve people of repeated visits to government offices and ensure that government services reach them according to their convenience.
He appealed to the residents of the district to make maximum use of the ‘Digi Punjab’ portal and utilise the online facilities available for accessing government services.
