Punjab announces Thursday as government holiday, employees rejoice statewide

October 13, 2025 : The month of October is filled with festivals. Everyone eagerly waits for this festive season, which also brings along several holidays. While Diwali and Vishwakarma Day will naturally be public holidays, there will be another government holiday in the state this week.

According to the Punjab Government’s 2025 holiday calendar (Notification No: 06/01/2024-2PP.3/677), Thursday, October 16, will be observed as the birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Ji. On this occasion, there will be a government holiday in Punjab, but for now, it will only apply to government employees as it is a “Restricted Holiday” (RH).

Additionally, there will be three more public holidays later this month — on October 20 for Diwali, on October 22 for Vishwakarma Day/Govardhan Puja, and on October 23 for the Guruship Day of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji — during which government employees will also have official holidays.

Summary:
The Punjab government has declared a restricted holiday (RH) on Thursday, bringing relief and joy to government employees across the state ahead of the weekend.
