Punjab Assembly Rejects BBMB Order on Water to Haryana

Chandigarh May 7 : While discussing the issue of water in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann revealed a serious truth that is a matter of deep concern for all the people of Punjab.

The Chief Minister stated that to grow rice during just one paddy season, Punjab withdraws an amount of water equivalent to nine Gobind Sagar lakes. He emphasized that the depth from which water is being extracted in the Malwa region today is comparable to the depth at which Saudi Arabia extracts oil.

He warned that water in Punjab is depleting rapidly, posing a significant threat to future generations. Mann added that the situation has become so dire that water from borewells is now coming out hot, and motors have stopped functioning. “Where can we go from here?” he questioned.

The Chief Minister also noted that there is now a shortage of pipes, and they are being imported from Bengaluru to meet the demand.

He blamed the mistakes of previous governments for the current crisis. However, he clarified that he holds no personal grudges against opposition leaders, only differences in opinion—and when it comes to the water issue, all parties stand united.

He assured the Assembly that everything will be kept transparent before the public, and not a single drop of Punjab’s water will be allowed to go to waste. “If needed, we will go all the way to the Supreme Court,” he declared.

Summary: CM Mann calls BBMB “useless” and vows not to release extra water to Haryana, citing Punjab’s water scarcity and political pressure concerns.
