Punjab Banks to Remain Closed for 2 Days: Dates and Reasons Explained

Punjab , December 12, 2024 (Navroze Bureau) – The All India Punjab National Bank Officers Federation, representing thousands of officers of Punjab National Bank (PNB), has announced a 2-day strike on 26 and 27 December 2024. The aim of this strike is to resolve problems like work and life balance, shortage of employees, National Pension Scheme (NPS), tax on allowances and discrimination in organizations. 

Main demands and reasons 
All India Punjab National Bank Officers Federation has accused the PNB management and the concerned officers of ignoring repeated dialogues. Punjab State General Secretary of the Federation Comrade Jatinder Kumar Malhotra told that the organization has decided to hold a 2 day national strike under the leadership of National General Secretary Comrade Krishna Kumar.

Other issues of the organization
Comrade Malhotra also said that discrimination in transfer and benefit management of officers by the bank and problems in performance appraisal through digital tools like ‘Udaan’ have also been identified.

Possible impact
The two-day strike on December 26 and 27 is likely to have a massive impact on banking services across the country. The federation has appealed to the government and PNB management to pay immediate attention to its demands.

Their main demands are as follows
* Implementation of 5-day banking week, which can create a balance between work and life.
* Sufficient recruitment to meet the shortage of human resources.
* Freedom to choose pension fund manager under NPS.
* Tax on allowances to be paid by the bank.
* Medical assistance for the period from 1 November 2022 to 31 December 2023.
