Talwandi Sabo (Bathinda), April 18: Chief Whip and Talwandi Sabo MLA, Pro Baljinder Kaur, speaking to the media here today, said that under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab government is working according to the thoughts and principles of Bharat Ratna, Constitution maker, and Yuga Purush Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. On this occasion, she was joined by Chairman of Nagar Sudhar Trust, S. Jatinder Singh Bhalla, Chairperson of the Market Committee, Ramna Gurpreet Kaur, and Sarpanch of Pind Jagha Ram Teerath, Jaswinder Kaur.
During this occasion, MLA Baljinder Kaur stated that Punjab has become the first state in the country to provide reservation for the SC community in the office of the Advocate General. The MLA thanked the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann for this initiative and extended her best wishes to the SC community for this achievement.
She mentioned that the Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government has always prioritized the progress of backward communities. She said that the government is running in accordance with the thoughts of Martyr S. Bhagat Singh and Constitution maker Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. For this reason, instead of displaying the Chief Minister’s photograph in all government offices, the photographs of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Martyr Bhagat Singh have been displayed.
Pro Baljinder Kaur added that the demand for reservation in the AG office for the SC community had been raised since 2017, but previous governments had not paid attention to it. However, now the Punjab government has reserved 58 posts for the SC community in the AG office. She also mentioned that studies of the backlog revealed that due to income criteria, SC seats could remain vacant. Therefore, the Punjab government has provided relaxation in the income criteria for SC community members so they can be appointed as government lawyers in the AG office and represent the voice of the backward classes in court. She said that this will also make it easier for SC community members to become judges in the future, as the experience of working in the AG office will be beneficial for them.
MLA Pro Baljinder Kaur reiterated that the Punjab government is committed to the progress of backward classes in society and will continue to take every step in the future to ensure their upliftment. She also highlighted that the government is providing uninterrupted scholarships for the children of backward communities so that they can pursue their education.
Summary: Punjab introduces 25% reservation for SC community in the Advocate General’s office, creating 58 reserved positions and lowering income criteria to enhance accessibility.
