Jeera 29 July 2025 : The Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab is reaffirming its commitment to public welfare through continuous pro-people initiatives. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the government prioritizes the interests of the common people. This sentiment was shared by senior AAP leaders — Sarpanch Daljit Singh Awan, former Chairman Balraj Singh Botianwala, Sarpanch Manpreet Singh Sekhon, and Sarpanch Ram Singh Gill Longodeva — during a special interaction.
These leaders stated that the Punjab government’s decision to introduce the ‘Seed Bill-2025’ is a highly commendable and historic move. The primary goal of this bill is to crack down strictly on fraudsters selling substandard or adulterated seeds.
They explained that in the past, farmers often purchased seeds from the market and used them for sowing, only to suffer severe consequences due to poor seed quality. On one hand, their crops would fail; on the other, they would suffer financial losses. The present Punjab government is a farmer-friendly government, and that’s why it has taken a strong stance against seed fraud by introducing the Seed Bill-2025.
Once implemented, the bill will leave no room for those selling low-quality seeds. It proposes strict punishment for violators, including heavy fines of up to ₹50 lakh. This step is expected to stop the exploitation of farmers and deter sellers from engaging in fraudulent practices due to fear of legal consequences.
The bill ensures that only high-quality seeds are available in the market, leading to better crop yields for farmers. It will also serve as a warning to fraudsters who bring and sell inferior seeds. This will prove to be a major relief for farmers and will promote transparency and accountability in the agriculture sector.
Summary :
Punjab’s AAP government approved the Seeds (Punjab Amendment) Bill‑2025, making sale of spurious seeds cognizable and non‑bailable, with tougher fines and jail terms.
