Hoshiarpur 14 May 2025 : Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain stated that a large-scale awareness campaign is being conducted in the district regarding Civil Defense, which will reach every village and town in the district. During a meeting with officials, she directed that a monthly plan be prepared and volunteers’ duties be assigned. In addition, the Deputy Commissioner has issued strict orders for those spreading rumors.
She mentioned that during the drug-free journey, awareness about this should also be spread among the people through volunteers. She emphasized that public meetings should be organized in villages and towns for spreading awareness, where people should be taught to recognize any object seen in the sky, whether it is a satellite, airplane, drone, or something else.
The Deputy Commissioner said that to curb rumors, officials have been instructed to remain vigilant and strict. She noted that some mischievous elements are deliberately uploading fake news and baseless content on social media, causing insecurity among citizens, and this needs to be stopped immediately. She appealed to the citizens to not believe in baseless and factless news spread through social media or other channels, and to trust the information shared by the district administration or police in the public interest.
She added that in the future, unverified news received on WhatsApp should not be shared with anyone, as the police’s cyber cell is closely monitoring those spreading rumors. If anyone is found doing so, a police case will be filed against them. She further mentioned that the strict adherence to the guidelines and advisories issued by the government from time to time should be ensured.
She said that while the Hoshiarpur district administration is working to educate citizens to deal with any emergency situation through mock drills and blackouts in all the sub-districts, a Civil Defense volunteer force has also been prepared. This includes NGOs, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers, ex-servicemen, village Sarpanches, Panchs, and ordinary citizens who have been trained. Present at the event were Additional Deputy Commissioner Nikas Kumar, RTA Sanjeev Kumar, GM Industry Arun Kumar, District Commander-cum-Deputy Controller of Civil Defense Ravel Singh, Maninder Singh, Davinder Singh, Sunil Kapoor, Pramod Sharma, and others.
