Punjab Declares Holiday on 20th: Here’s Why and Where

Due to the by-elections in 4 assembly constituencies in Punjab, a holiday has been declared on the 20th. According to the notification issued by the Punjab government, there will be a local holiday in government offices, boards, corporations and educational institutions located in districts Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Sri Muktsar Sahib and Barnala.

The notification also said that if any government officer/employee is a voter in the voter list of Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, Gidderbaha and Barnala constituencies and works in any government office or educational institution in any other district of Punjab, he can avail special leave by presenting his voter card to cast his vote. This leave will not be deducted from the leave account of the officer/employee.

Schools and colleges will remain closed for 3 days.
Please note that schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed for 3 days starting tomorrow in the state. Actually, there will be government holidays from 15th to 17th November. The birth anniversary of the first Sikh Guru, Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji is being celebrated on 15th November. Due to which there will be an official holiday on this day in Punjab, Chandigarh and many other states. After this, 16th November is the martyrdom day of Shaheed Sardar Kartar Singh Sarabha, due to which the state government has declared 16th November as a public holiday in Punjab. During this time schools, colleges and business units will remain closed across the state.
