Ferozepur, April 9, 2025 : In view of the upcoming heat wave season in the state, an online review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Shri Harpreet Singh Sudan, IAS, Director (DM)-cum-Special Secretary Revenue, with all Deputy Commissioners and officials of various districts. SDM Ferozepur, Divya P., along with officers from other departments, was also present during this video conference.
During the meeting, Shri Harpreet Singh Sudan reviewed the preparations being made and the steps being taken to mitigate the risks associated with the approaching heat wave season.
He directed that advisories should be issued regarding heat waves. During the summer months, hot winds and heat waves prevail, which can adversely affect the human body and sometimes even prove to be fatal. He explained that when the temperature in a plain area reaches 40°C or more, the condition is classified as a heat wave. He further shared that hot winds not only increase our thirst but can also severely affect our body, especially the eyes and skin. In extreme heat, the body tries to regulate temperature through sweating, which leads to dehydration. Once the body’s self-regulating system fails to function due to excessive heat, the body’s temperature matches the external temperature, a condition known as “loo” or heat stroke. People often take this lightly, which leads to illness.
He stated that although heat waves are usually expected during May and June, this year, the temperature has already risen significantly in April. Hence, both the general public and people in high-risk categories need to remain alert.
During the meeting, SDM Ferozepur shared the measures and preparations being undertaken by the Ferozepur District Administration and the District Disaster Management Authority to tackle the heat wave. She informed that the Health Department is also issuing advisories from time to time and conducting awareness activities to educate the public on how to prevent heat strokes.
Present on the occasion were Executive Officer of the Municipal Council, Poonam Bhatnagar, District Agriculture Officer Gurpreet Singh Sidhu, and officials from other departments.
Summary: Director (DM) and Special Secretary Revenue convened a review meeting to ensure preparedness and response measures ahead of the anticipated heat wave season in Punjab.
