Punjab Government and Citizens Join Forces to Combat Devastating Floods

Chandigarh, 8 Sep 2025: In view of the devastating floods in Punjab, the state government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, along with Cabinet ministers and local residents, has united to carry out relief and rescue operations across the state. Cabinet ministers are distributing relief materials on a large scale in flood-affected areas and personally supervising the strengthening of river embankments in various districts.

Punjab government spokesperson stated that Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today packed daily necessities for flood-affected families in Dirba from his office. He emphasized that no flood-affected person in the state should be deprived of relief materials. All items were collected without any government assistance, with volunteers contributing part of their earnings. A truck carrying relief materials, arranged by veterinary officers, was dispatched to the flood-affected areas.

Similarly, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains is continuously monitoring the situation in Nangal and Anandpur Sahib. He personally supervises the embankments and rescue work, including efforts to repair the Lakshmi Narayan temple near Nangal Dam. He stated that he will remain on site until all relief operations are fully completed.

Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO dispatched relief materials, including medicines, dry milk, animal feed, and a medical team from Jandiala Guru to the Ajnala area. Relief distribution was carried out in the villages Malikpur and Sarai. He also visited Simarjit Kaur in Romana Chak, injured due to a roof collapse, assuring all possible assistance.

Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Singh and Punjab Panchayat Minister Tarunpreet Singh Saund visited border villages of Fazilka district, delivering relief materials by boat to Gulaba Bhaini village and distributing them personally. They highlighted that Punjab has been battling floods for nearly a month, while the central government is still awaiting reports.

Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goel toured several villages along the Ghaggar river in the Lehraagaga area, including Makroor Sahib, Moonak, and Tohaana, thanking locals for supporting embankment strengthening. He assured that the Punjab government is working day and night to tackle potential flood situations.

Cabinet Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar visited the flood-affected Patti area, interacted with locals, and distributed essential relief. Head Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh of Darbar Sahib also joined to assess the situation. Relief materials were distributed in villages like Ghardum, Kuttiwala, Basti Lal Singh, Ghullewala, Sabhran, and Radhalke, with promises of ongoing support.

Cabinet Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian visited various villages in the Lambi area, assuring flood-affected residents of all possible help, including visits to Midda, Raniwala, Sarawan, and Pakki Tibbi villages.

Cabinet Minister Dr. Balbir Singh distributed medical kits in different flood-affected areas and instructed ASHA workers to go door-to-door, raise awareness, and advise people to call Helpline 104 in medical emergencies.

Summary : In response to severe flooding, the Punjab government and local communities collaborated effectively, providing relief, rescuing stranded residents, and ensuring essential supplies reached affected areas promptly.
