21 Aug 2025: The Punjab government has approved a 10 percent increase in mandi (market) labor rates. This decision was taken during the Board of Directors’ meeting chaired by Punjab Mandi Board Chairman Harchand Singh Barsat.
The paddy mandi labor rate has been raised from ₹17.50 to ₹19.26 per bag (37.5 kg), marking an increase of ₹1.76 per bag.
Harchand Singh Barsat said that the 10 percent hike in mandi labor rates was made in response to the demands of labor unions. The revised rates will not only provide necessary relief to workers and their families but will also promote fair labor practices and help improve the standard of living of those involved in the agricultural supply chain.
During the meeting, extensive discussions were also held on efforts to increase the income of the Punjab Mandi Board. Barsat informed that special plans are being prepared and work is being carried out with great enthusiasm to boost the board’s revenue. Vacant plots in grain markets are being e-auctioned, and ATMs and unipoles are being installed at various mandis.
On this occasion, Punjab Mandi Board Secretary Ramvir, Punjab Farmers’ Commission Chairman Dr. Sukhpal Singh, Special Agriculture Secretary Baldeep Kaur, and other senior officials were also present.
