Punjab Government Expands State Bus Fleet, Bans Private Buses in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 16, 2025 : Punjab’s Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar on Thursday instructed the officials of Punjab Roadways and PRTC to expedite the process of purchasing new buses in the state. It is notable that 606 new buses will be added to Punjab Roadways and 656 to PRTC. Additionally, 100 mini buses will also be purchased to ensure smooth transportation in both rural and urban areas.

Presiding over a meeting held here on Thursday to review the ongoing process of bus procurement with officials of Punjab Roadways and PRTC, Transport Minister Laljit Singh Bhullar said that due to the efforts of the state government to provide better government bus services to the people of the state, public confidence in the government bus service has been restored. As a result, an increase in revenue per kilometer for government buses has been recorded.

The Transport Minister also instructed the officials to complete the purchase process of new buses before the old buses break down, so that the public does not face any inconvenience. The meeting was attended by PRTC Managing Director Bikramjit Singh Shergill, Punjab Roadways Director Rajiv Gupta, and other officials.
