Punjab 21 July 2025 : The Punjab Government has made a significant announcement for government schools by issuing a new notification. The government is in the process of renaming state-run schools after martyrs. Under this initiative, the government has approved the renaming of 25 schools in the state.
These schools will now be named after freedom fighters and martyred soldiers. Providing details, Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains stated that the Punjab School Education Department is renaming government schools after martyrs. In 2023, the government decided to rename the Government High School in Khatkar Kalan, the village of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, in his honor.
Harjot Bains further shared that 25 more schools are being named after various freedom fighters and martyrs. He also mentioned that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced that after the passing of legendary runner Fauja Singh, the school in his native village Beas will be named after him, which will serve as great inspiration for students.
The minister added another major announcement, stating that in all government schools renamed after martyrs, their portraits or paintings will be displayed and their histories will be shared with students so that they can learn about and be inspired by their sacrifices.
