Punjab government on alert, announces major measures amid worsening conditions

21 Aug 2025 : Punjab Water Resources Minister Barinder Kumar Goyal said that the Punjab government will fully compensate farmers for crop losses and other damages caused by floods. Special girdawari (crop damage assessment) orders have been issued in Sultanpur and Bhulath tehsils for compensation of affected crops.

While visiting flood-affected areas in Sultanpur Lodhi villages where water levels have risen, Minister Goyal said that the Punjab government is fully on alert and is keeping round-the-clock surveillance on the situation of dams and rivers. Rajya Sabha member Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, Aam Aadmi Party constituency in-charge and Kapurthala Improvement Trust Chairman Sajjan Singh Cheema, along with other officials, were also present with him.

Goyal further said that the Punjab government has deputed 8 cabinet ministers to monitor relief work in the flood-affected areas. These ministers will visit different districts and directly reach out to the people. He also distributed dry rations in the affected village of Sangra by traveling there in boats.
