Punjab Govt Grants Historic Salary Hikes & Arrears to Employees

Patiala, 1 July 2025 : The Punjab government has decided to increase the stipend (salary) of medical college interns. Now, instead of ₹15,000 per month, they will receive ₹22,000. According to sources, postgraduate students will receive ₹76,000, ₹77,000, and ₹78,000 in their first, second, and third years respectively. Similarly, senior doctors will be paid ₹92,000, ₹93,000, and ₹94,000.

Following this decision by the government, all medical services for the general public have resumed in hospitals. This claim was made by Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh, who assured that the public will continue to receive healthcare services as before.

It is noteworthy that junior doctors in medical colleges had gone on strike. Meanwhile, the opposition had also raised this issue. Taking note of the matter, Health Minister Balbir Singh held a meeting with the concerned doctors. He stated that the issue of stipend revision had been pending for a long time and was under the government’s consideration.

As soon as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and party supremo Arvind Kejriwal were informed, they instructed, “Doctor Sahib, call those people.” Subsequently, all the doctors were called for a meeting, which was led by the Finance Minister, where every issue was discussed, and the stipend hike was approved.

Now the doctors have decided to call off the strike. OPD (Outpatient Department) and operation theatres are now functioning normally.

Punjab has announced a ₹2,500 raise plus a 10% salary boost for 1,148 PRTC employees, regularized teacher salary hikes benefiting 12,700 staff, and approved Sixth Pay Commission arrears disbursed in phases starting April 2025.
