Ludhiana, 16 May 2025 : Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has given major relief to the people of Punjab by announcing a special concession for property tax defaulters. Under this scheme, individuals who pay their outstanding property tax by 31st July will receive a 100% waiver on interest and penalties.
It is noteworthy that a large number of people in Punjab have either never paid property tax or have not been filing returns regularly. In such cases, the government had been levying 18% interest and 20% penalty, which significantly increased the total due amount. Responding to continuous public demand for relief, Chief Minister Mann has made this decision.
A notification has also been issued by the Local Bodies Department regarding this, under what is being called the “One-Time Settlement Policy”. According to it, if the outstanding property tax is paid by 31st July, the interest and penalty will be completely waived off.
Additionally, those who pay the due property tax by October will receive a 50% waiver on interest and penalty.
Summary:
Punjab government has issued a notification urging citizens to complete specific tasks before the 31st of the month, emphasizing compliance to avoid penalties or service delays.
