Punjab 28 May 2025 : The Punjab government is running a large-scale campaign against corruption. In this context, recently four police personnel including the SHO of Fazilka were arrested, and now the SSP of Fazilka, Varinder Singh Barad, has been suspended in connection with this case. Along with him, SHO Manjit Singh, Senior Constable Rajpal, Senior Constable Shindarpal Singh, and Senior Constable Sumit Kumar are also involved in the matter.
Following this major action, the Punjab government has shared a tweet giving a stern warning to Punjab police officers. The government stated that corruption will not be tolerated in Punjab. Reiterating the zero-tolerance policy against corruption, it said that strict legal action will be taken against officials involved in corruption, regardless of their level — be it ministers, MLAs, IAS or PCS officers. The Punjab government emphasized that no corrupt official, whether junior or senior, will be spared.
What is the whole matter?
It is reported that the father of 17-year-old boy Dilraj Singh, Dharminder Singh, contacted the Chief Minister’s portal with evidence of bribery demands by the Cyber Crime Police Station Fazilka. The minor Dilraj Singh had accidentally clicked on a porn site, after which he was being blackmailed and a bribe of one lakh rupees was being demanded from the family. The police seized the boy’s mobile phone and were demanding one lakh rupees to resolve the matter. Upon receiving the complaint, the Vigilance department set a trap and caught the accused red-handed.
