Jalalabad, April 16, 2025: Jalalabad MLA, Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy, held a press conference today and stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Government is working according to the thoughts and principles of Bharat Ratna, Constitution maker, and the great personality Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. He mentioned that Punjab has become the first state in the country to grant reservation for the SC community in the office of the Advocate General. The MLA thanked the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann for this initiative and congratulated the SC community for this achievement.
MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy said that previous governments had used Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s name to gain votes, but once in power, they completely neglected the backward classes. On the other hand, the government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has always prioritized the development of backward classes. He further stated that the government is running according to the thoughts of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, which is why instead of putting the Chief Minister’s picture in government offices, the pictures of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Shaheed Bhagat Singh have been displayed.
He added that the demand for reservation in the AG office had been raised since 2017, but previous governments did not pay attention to it. However, the Punjab government has now reserved 58 posts for the SC community. He mentioned that a study of the backlog revealed that some seats for the SC community could have remained vacant due to the income criteria, so the Punjab government relaxed the income criteria for SC community members so that they could be appointed as government lawyers in the AG office and represent the voice of the backward classes in court.
He also stated that this will facilitate the SC community in becoming judges in the future, as the experience of working in the AG office would be beneficial for them.
MLA Jagdeep Kamboj Goldy further emphasized that the Punjab government is committed to the progress of backward classes and will continue to make every effort for their welfare in the future. He also mentioned that the government is providing scholarships to children of backward classes to ensure they can continue their education without any hindrance.
Present at the occasion were Market Committee Chairman Shri Devaraj Sharma and Haris Setia.
Summary: Punjab becomes the first state to provide 25% reservation for SC lawyers in the Advocate General’s office, enhancing legal representation for the community.
