10 April 2025 : In the Tarn Taran district’s Khadoor Sahib assembly constituency, a tragic incident occurred in the village of Kot Muhammad Khan under Goindwal Sahib police station. During an attempt to intervene in a clash between two groups, police personnel came under fire from the individuals involved in the dispute. Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh was shot and later succumbed to his injuries, while another police officer was seriously injured.
According to sources, a conflict had been ongoing for the past few days between two parties in the village. Upon receiving complaints, the police had previously given both sides time to resolve the issue. However, late Wednesday night, tensions flared up again, prompting the filing of an online complaint. Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh, along with a police party, reached the village to calm the situation.
While attempting to defuse the conflict, some individuals started firing at the police. Sub-Inspector Charanjit Singh was critically injured by a gunshot. When the police tried to stop the attackers, some officers were also assaulted and injured. Charanjit Singh was rushed to the hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
After receiving information about the incident, DIG Ferozepur Range Harmanbir Singh Gill, SSP Abhimanyu Rana, and DSP Atul Soni reached the scene and initiated legal proceedings. There is also suspicion that a police service revolver may have been used during the firing, though officials have not confirmed this.
