1 Sep 2025 : The furious form of the weather is wreaking havoc in Punjab. Since last night, continuous downpours have not only drenched every district of the state but also pushed rivers and streams to the brink of flooding. According to the Meteorological Department, Punjab has been witnessing uninterrupted rainfall since last night.
The department has issued a red alert for Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Nawanshahr, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Sangrur, Patiala, and Ropar districts, and a change in weather conditions is expected after September 3. The department also stated that a 115-year-old record of rainfall in Punjab has been broken.
Meanwhile, rainwater flowing in from the upper regions of Himachal Pradesh into Punjab has led to a rise in the water level of the Gobind Sagar Lake at the Bhakra Dam. On Sunday evening, the water level of Bhakra Dam was recorded at 167.62 feet. Currently, four gates of the dam are open up to 3 feet each. At the same time, the water level of the Ghaggar River near Cheeka, on the Punjab-Haryana border, has reached close to the danger mark.
Summary: Punjab records unprecedented rainfall, breaking previous records, with authorities issuing weather updates and urging precautionary measures to manage flood-like situations.
