Chandigarh, 7 July 2025: To prevent incidents of sacrilege in Punjab, the government is soon going to introduce a law that includes provisions for strict punishment. A major announcement on this issue may be made in the Cabinet meeting scheduled for today, and the proposed bill is likely to be presented in the special session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly on July 10. Before that, a detailed discussion will take place in today’s Cabinet meeting.
It’s also worth mentioning that the timing of today’s Cabinet meeting has been changed. Earlier, the meeting was scheduled for 10:00 AM, but it has now been rescheduled to 6:00 PM. A special Assembly session has been convened for July 10, during which the Cabinet will deliberate on the bills to be presented.
In particular, there will be intense discussion on the proposed bill that includes strict punishments to curb sacrilege incidents. Meanwhile, all opposition parties are criticizing the action taken against Bikram Singh Majithia and are preparing to corner the government on this issue during the Assembly session. In response, the government is preparing a counter-strategy.
