Punjab Tightens Security, Cancels Government Events Amid Rising Tensions

Punjab, May 7, 2025 : Following India’s military operation “Operation Sindoor” against Pakistan, schools, colleges, and airports have been shut down, and security has been tightened across Punjab.

As part of this special military operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) carried out precise and strategic airstrikes on 9 terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) around 1:30 AM on the night of May 6, 2025.

In light of these developments, all government programs in Punjab have been cancelled. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and Aam Aadmi Party supremo Arvind Kejriwal have called off all scheduled events in the state. Notably, CM Mann and Kejriwal were supposed to visit Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar at 11 AM and Jalandhar at 3 PM today, where they were to meet with Village Defence Committees.

As security has been ramped up in Punjab, a three-day holiday has been declared in some schools. Farmers have also called off their “Rail Roko” (Stop the Train) protest. Schools in Pathankot, Fazilka, and Firozpur districts have been closed until further notice. Meanwhile, barricades have been set up at airports and people are being turned away.

Summary: In light of increased India-Pakistan tensions, Punjab has imposed strict security measures, canceled government programs, and closed schools in key border districts.
