June 10, 2025: An orange alert has been issued in Punjab today, June 10, due to a heatwave. Both day and night temperatures are expected to remain higher than normal. In the past 24 hours, the state has seen a 1.2°C rise in maximum temperature, which is 3.8°C above normal.
According to the Meteorological Department, the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Samrala, Ludhiana, at 46.1°C. Other major cities recorded: Chandigarh – 43.8°C, Amritsar – 44.2°C, Bathinda – 44.6°C, and Ludhiana – 43.9°C.
Most districts are experiencing heatwave conditions during the day and warm nights as well. The department has extended the orange alert for the coming days. Specifically, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, Moga, Mansa, and Barnala will likely see continued extreme heat and warm nights.
Relief Expected From June 14
As per the weather department, thunderstorms and strong winds are likely to begin from June 14, offering some relief. The heatwave alert remains in effect until June 13, with possible easing from June 14 onward.
