Malerkotla, September 7:
The block-level competitions under ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026’ commenced in Malerkotla as part of the Punjab Government’s initiative to encourage youth to participate in sports and keep them away from drugs.
On the occasion, Malerkotla MLA Dr. Jameel Ur Rehman formally inaugurated the games. He said that Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan are proving to be a boon for the overall development of the state’s youth. He said that it is from these sports grounds and competitions that children will go on to demonstrate their talent at the national and international levels.
He said that ‘Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan-2026’, being organized by the Punjab Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, are making an important contribution towards developing a sports culture in the state. He added that Punjab’s youth will stay away from drugs by becoming involved in sports, helping Punjab once again become a happy, vibrant, sporting and colorful state.
The MLA said that Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan have once again created an atmosphere of enthusiasm and active participation in sports across the state. Punjab’s youth possess exceptional sporting talent and only needed the right platform to hone their abilities, which the Punjab Government is providing through these games.
During the event, students of Sita Grammar School presented impressive performances of Giddha and Bhangra.
During the block-level athletics competitions, Alisha secured first place in the girls’ 100-metre race, while Dilpreet Singh won first place in the boys’ 60-metre race.
The players were also administered a sports oath, encouraging them to participate with sportsmanship, discipline and honesty. Through these competitions, athletes were encouraged to showcase their talent beyond the block, district and state levels and progress towards the national and international stages.
DSP Manavjit Singh and District Sports Officer Kuldeep Chugh were also present on the occasion.
