Rising Risk for Punjabis as Water Released from Bhakra Dam

Nangal 26 Aug 2025 : Due to heavy rainfall in the upper regions of Himachal, the inflow of water into the Gobind Sagar Lake of Bhakra Dam is continuously rising. By 6 p.m. on Monday, the water level of Bhakra Dam was recorded at 1669.98 feet, with a sharp increase in water inflow.

On Monday evening, 87,795 cusecs of water was recorded in the Gobind Sagar Lake, and about 40,828 cusecs of water was released into the Nangal Dam reservoir through turbines and floodgates. The full water level capacity of Bhakra Dam is 1680 feet, and the current level is just 10 feet below the danger mark.

Additionally, 12,350 cusecs of water was released into the Nangal Hydel Canal, 10,150 cusecs into the Sri Anandpur Sahib Hydel Canal, and 21,150 cusecs into the Sutlej River from Nangal Dam.
