SBI warns customers: Only these official numbers are genuine, avoid fraud

New Delhi 25 Aug 2025 : If you are an account holder with the State Bank of India (SBI), this information is extremely important for you. In view of the increasing cases of online fraud across the country, SBI has issued a crucial warning to its customers. The bank has informed that fraudsters are posing as bank officials to extract confidential details from customers. However, SBI has made it clear which numbers its genuine calls come from – so that you do not fall into the trap of scammers.

SBI calls only come from these series

Through its social media platforms, SBI clarified that its customer care center makes calls only from numbers starting with ‘1600’ or ‘140’. This means that if you receive a call from these two series, only then can it be considered a genuine SBI call. Calls from any other mobile or landline numbers should be treated with caution – regardless of the caller claiming to be a bank official.

Be alert from such calls

If someone calls you from an unknown number and asks for banking details – such as your account number, OTP, debit card details, password, or PIN – do not share any information. SBI has reiterated that the bank never asks for such sensitive details over the phone.

Where to report in case of fraud?

If unfortunately, you become a victim of cyber fraud or receive a suspicious call, you should immediately contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline at 1930. Timely reporting can help prevent fraud and secure your finances.

Important precautions to follow:

  • Never share OTP or password with anyone
  • Do not click on unknown links
  • Note down and report suspicious numbers if you receive such calls
  • Treat calls as genuine SBI calls only if they come from 1600 or 140 series

Summary:
SBI has alerted customers that only specific official numbers are used for calls. Any other calls are fraudulent, urging users to stay cautious and vigilant.
