School Roof Collapses in Rajasthan’s Jhalawar; At Least Four Children Dead

Jaipur  25 July 2025: At least four minor students lost their lives and eight others sustained critical injuries after a portion of a government upper primary school building collapsed in Piplod village, under Dangipura police station limits in Jhalawar district, on Friday morning. The collapse occurred while students were gathering for morning prayers.

Vijendra Singh, SHO at Dangipura police station, said the injured students were immediately rushed to SRG Hospital in Jhalawar. “Four children have died and 32 were injured. Two of the critically injured have been referred to a higher medical centre,” he said.

The incident occurred around 7:45 AM. According to Singh, 32 students were in the classrooms for Classes 6 and 7 when the roof caved in. “All the students have been rescued,” he added.

Commenting on the incident, Rajasthan Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed deep sorrow and announced a high-level inquiry into the incident. “A very unfortunate incident has taken place in Piplod village. I have instructed the district collector and education officials to ensure proper medical care for the injured. A detailed inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse,” he said.

Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also expressed grief over the incident. “The incident of the roof collapse is extremely painful and tragic. The concerned officials have been directed to ensure best possible treatment for the injured children. May God grant peace to the departed souls and give strength to the bereaved families,” he posted on X.

Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot also took to X, expressing concern: “Reports have come in about several children and teachers being injured due to the collapse of a government school building in Jhalawar’s Manoharthana. I pray to God for minimum loss of life and a speedy recovery for those injured.”

PM Modi condoles the loss of lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the deaths of four students in the Jhalawar school roof collapse.

“The mishap at a school in Jhalawar, Rajasthan, is tragic and deeply saddening. My thoughts are with the affected students and their families in this difficult hour. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance to those affected,” PMO India posted on ‘X’.

Video shows residents aiding rescue efforts

A video from the incident site, shared by news agency PTI, shows scenes of panic as residents scramble to clear the debris.

Hundreds of people have gathered around the collapsed structure, with several locals trying to remove fallen bricks by hand in a desperate attempt to rescue those trapped underneath.

According to police cited by PTI, children trapped under the debris were rescued with the help of teachers and local villagers.

At least 27 students were attending classes at the upper primary school when the incident occurred, the news agency quoted Station House Officer at Dangipura police station, Vijendra Singh, as saying.

Circle Inspector Nandkishore from the Manoharthana police station, “Two of the critically injured students were referred to a specialised health centre, while six others are undergoing treatment at the SRG Hospital,” reported PTI.
