SDM Khadoor Sahib urges farmers to incorporate stubble for soil fertility

Khadoor Sahib, October 15, 2025 : Under the directions of Deputy Commissioner Tarn Taran, Mr. Rahul, IAS, a meeting was held under the chairmanship of SDM Khadoor Sahib, Mr. Khushpreet Singh, with Block Nodal Incharges, Cluster Officers, and SHOs of Goindwal Sahib, Verowal, and Chohla Sahib to discourage stubble burning. On this occasion, the officers were instructed to visit villages and make farmers aware of the harmful effects of burning paddy residue.

SDM Khadoor Sahib, Mr. Khushpreet Singh, also appealed to farmers not to burn crop residue, explaining that doing so destroys the top layer of soil along with numerous microorganisms, insects, and birds that inhabit it — most of which are beneficial for the soil and crops. This practice not only reduces soil fertility but also leads to an increase in harmful pests due to the loss of beneficial organisms. Consequently, the use of pesticides rises, and excessive pesticide use later has adverse effects on human health.

On this occasion, Cluster Officer Dr. Yadvinder Singh urged farmers that it is the need of the hour for everyone to join hands in preventing environmental pollution — whether caused by burning crop residue during agricultural activities or by unnecessary use of firecrackers during festivals. He added that farmers can manage stubble effectively by using the “Unnat Kisan App” to rent agricultural machinery.

Among those present were Tehsildar Khadoor Sahib Mrs. Seema Sharma, Naib Tehsildar Mr. Navjot Tiwari, Superintendent Mr. Anil Kumar, Block Nodal Incharge Dr. Navtej Singh, Block Model Incharge Chohla Sahib Dr. Amardeep Singh, and all Cluster Officers of Block Khadoor Sahib.

Summary:
SDM Khadoor Sahib advised farmers to mix stubble into the soil instead of burning it, emphasizing that it enhances fertility and promotes sustainable farming practices.
