Fazilka, September 30: A Sky Watch event was successfully organized by the Astronomy Club at Government High School Bandiwala with the support of the Bharti Airtel Foundation. The event was primarily dedicated to the Moon and the achievements of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
On the occasion, the school Headmistress, Ms. Poonam, said that such awareness programmes and events help develop a scientific temperament among students. The Astronomy Club in-charge showed the students the craters on the Moon through a telescope. The students were also informed that the Moon is Earth’s only natural satellite, where temperatures can rise to 127 degrees Celsius during the day and fall to as low as -173 degrees Celsius at night. They were also told about India’s role in the discovery of water on the Moon.
Providing further information about ISRO, the students were explained how India discovered water on the Moon through Chandrayaan-1 and how Chandrayaan-3 created history by successfully landing on the Moon’s southern polar region on August 23, 2023. With this achievement, India became the first country in the world to successfully land a spacecraft in the lunar south polar region.
During the event, students also presented models of Chandrayaan-3. In addition, rangoli and paintings depicting the Moon were created, and a quiz competition related to ISRO and the Moon was organized. All the students participated in the activities with great enthusiasm. Around 160 students, parents and villagers participated in the awareness programme.
The programme was made successful with the significant support of Headmistress Ms. Poonam; former Sarpanch Mr. Gurjit Singh, who attended as the chief guest; present Sarpanch Mr. Ravinder Singh; Headmaster Mr. Sanjay Dhaka and S.S. Master Mr. Vijaypal from Government High School Odian; SMC Chairman Mr. Chhinda Singh; the entire team of the Bharti Airtel Foundation; and the school staff.
